Winnipeg Goldeyes starter Chris Salamida gave up four runs in the top of the first inning on Wednesday night. He then proceeded to put up seven zeroes and watch his teammates come from behind. With Salamida dealing, the Goldeyes came back and beat the Lincoln Saltdogs 6-4 to win the opening game of the best-of-five American Association semifinal series at Shaw Park. Game 2 is slated for Thursday night at Winnipegs downtown ballpark. "That guy (Salamida) is just a great pitcher and we knew hed shut em down and wed come back," said Abercrombie, who went three-for-four with three runs scored, an RBI, three stolen bases and a game-changing triple. "Sal is a great pitcher and for the rest of us, it was just another game. We knew wed come back and win. I was able to get a few hits and the guys got a few hits and we came from behind and won. But how about Sal? I mean, he gave up four in the first and then put up seven straight zeroes. What a performance." Salamida gave up four runs on five hits in the top of the first as heavy-hitting Ian Gac doubled in two runs to lead the way. But that was it. Salamida shut down Lincoln for the next seven innings, then Brendan Lafferty pitched a scoreless ninth as the Fish took a 1-0 series lead. Winnipeg got on the board in the second as Abercrombie beat out an infield single, stole second, stole third and scored on a ground out to first by Ryan Pineda. The Goldeyes tied it in the third as Jake Blackwood led off with a single and scored on a triple to straightaway centre by Abercrombie. Reggie was fired up when he reached third and so was the rest of the team. The next hitter, Donnie Webb, drilled a belt-high fastball off the light standard in right-centre and with Abercrombie scoring in front of him, Webb had a monster home run and the Fish had tied the game. In the fifth, the Goldeyes took the lead for good as Casey Haerther drew a one-out walk, Abercrombie singled, Donnie Webb walked and then Mazzola hit a ground ball to short. Webb was forced out at second, but Mazzola beat the throw to first and Haerther scored. But the throw to first was in the dirt and Lincoln first baseman Ian Gac lost sight of the ball. The speedy Abercrombie took advantage of the miscue and scored behind Haerther to give Winnipeg a 6-4 lead. The 34-year-old Abercrombie did have three hits, but he beat Lincoln with his legs. "Ive been blessed with some speed and I was able to use it tonight," Reggie said. Salamida (1-0, 4.50 ERA) picked up the victory while Lincoln starter Joe Bisenius (0-1, 9.00 ERA) took the loss. Brendan Lafferty pitched a scoreless ninth inning to get the save. The Goldeyes finished with six runs on 12 hits while the Saltdogs had four runs on 12 hits. The Goldeyes and Saltdogs will meet in Game 2 of this semifinal series on Thursday night at 7. Marquis Fleming (0-0, 0.00 ERA) will get the start for Lincoln, while Ethan Hollingsworth (0-0, 0.00 ERA) will take to the bump for Winnipeg. The two goals came almost immediately after Ottawas Mark Stone scored short- handed to tie the game at 2-2 just 1:44 into the final frame. Matt Greene, Justin Williams and Tanner Pearson also tallied to help the Kings bounce back after two straight losses. Jake Muzzin posted a career-best three assists, while Jonathan Quick came up with 32 saves for Los Angeles. There were two or three times in the game where we had good responses, Kings head coach Darryl Sutter said. Its not easy sailing. Cameron was elevated from assistant coach on Monday to replace Paul McLean, who was fired after the Senators dropped 13 of their last 17 games. Ottawa was able to overcome a 2-0 deficit on goals by Bobby Ryan and Stone, but gave up three in the third period to fall to 1-4-1 in its last six outings. Jared Cowen notched a goal and an assist in the loss, with Craig Anderson stopping 31-of-35 shots for Ottawa. I dont think we can be too upset with the effort, said Cowen. We just have to bring it for the whole game. A failed clearing attempt by Kings defenseman Drew Doughty led to Stones equalizer, but he and his teammates quickly regrouped to give Los Angeles back the lead while still on a 5-on-4 power play. Kopitar raced to the net with the Kings controlling the puck in the Ottawa zone, and Doughty found him with a pinpoint pass that set up a successful backhander that came just 36 seconds after Stones goal. Los Angeles continued to pressure the Senators while back ahead, and Lewis converted a centering pass from Tyler Toffoli while stationed in front of a defenseless Annderson to push the lead to 4-2 with 4:02 elapsed in the third.dddddddddddd Anderson was pulled for an extra attacker with just over a minute to play, and the Senators plan worked when Cowen sent a shot that deflected off Muzzins stick and past Quick with 1:21 still to go. However, Pearson fought off a check shortly after the ensuing faceoff and fired the puck into the vacated net to seal it with 56.6 seconds left. The Senators started out very strong in Camerons debut, peppering Quick with eight shots before the Kings recorded their first. They outshot Los Angeles 14-5 for the first period, but Quick kept it scoreless by making several impressive saves -- including a close-range denial of Alex Chiasson that held up after a review. Los Angeles then went ahead just 1:47 into the second, when Greene wound up and fired a drive that caromed past a screened Anderson through heavy traffic. The Kings struck again near the midway mark of the period. Williams beat Sens defender Erik Karlsson for a puck sent down the boards by Muzzin, then fired a wrister through Andersons pads for a 2-0 advantage. A tremendous individual effort by Ryan enabled Ottawa to close the gap less than five minutes later. The talented wing blew past defenseman Brayden McNabb with a nifty move, then got Quick out of position before depositing home a backhand attempt. Game Notes The Kings had scored just eight goals over their previous five games ... Forward Milan Michalek (upper body) and defenseman Marc Methot (back/hip) both missed a second straight game for Ottawa, which also played without forward Clarke MacArthur (illness) ...
